Fergie wants to win it
Fergie won the trophy in 1983 with Aberdeen and in 1991 with Manchester United.
However, he failed to claim a Super Cup hat-trick nine years ago with a half-strength United side losing 1-0 to Lazio at the Stade Louis II. Marcelo Salas' first-half strike settled the contest.
United had a crucial league encounter just three days later -so Fergie made plenty of changes. The likes of Raimond van der Gouw and Henning Berg started for United, with John Curtis and Jonathan Greening introduced from the substitute's bench.
Memories of that night will force Fergie to take the game as seriously as possible. It also helps that United's next fixture after the Super Cup is over a fortnight away - which is the trip to Anfield on September 13th.
"I want to win," said Fergie.
"I remember the last time we went there I only played half a team because we had a Monday league game against Newcastle.
"When I saw Lazio celebrating at the end, it was like they had won the World Cup. I was not too pleased. I thought, 'That will not happen again'."
Victory would secure United a second piece of silverware for the season following the Community Shield triumph, or a third if you count the Vodacom Challenge Cup in South Africa.
